Prof Mahmudul obtains Japanese ‘The Order of the Rising Sun’

Prof. Mahmudul Haque, Honorary Professor of University of Dhaka has received “the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon” award for the recognition of his great contribution to strengthening cultural exchange through promoting modern art both in Japan and Bangladesh. 

The Government of Japan on Tuesday announced the foreign recipients of the 2019 Spring Imperial Decorations. 

Haque studied print making in University of Tsukuba, Japan as a Japanese government-scholarship student from 1981 to 1984.

 As a faculty member of the Department of Fine Arts in University of Dhaka, he  taught the art of block printing and the essence of Japanese art he had learnt in Japan, to more than 2,000 Bangladeshi students. 

He was the Director of Institute of Fine Arts, University of Dhaka from 1998 to 2000. From 2004 to 2006, he also made great contribution to enhancing cultural interaction between Japan and Bangladesh as the director general of the Bangladesh National Museum, introducing numbers of cultural exhibitions and seminars related to Japan and its culture.
