A young prisoner died at Noakhali General Hospital while undergoing treatment early Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Md Adnan Hossain alias Durjoy, son of Md Ekramul Haque, of Joykrishnapur village in Begumganj upazila of the district.
According to the jail sources, Adnan was convicted in a case filed under the Narcotics Control Act on August 21 and was sentenced to one year imprisonment.
Jailer Md Monir Hossain said Adnan fell sick around 9:00 pm on Friday and was admitted to the prison hospital.
Later, he was shifted to Noakhali General Hospital around 1:15 am following deterioration of his condition. After he was taken to the hospital, the on-duty doctor declared Adnan dead.
He might have died from cardiac arrest, the jail sources suspect.
The body will be handed over to the victim's family after completing an autopsy, Monir Hossain added.
