Prisoner dies in attack by cellmate in Ctg jail

A prisoner was killed in attack by his cellmate over a trifling matter at Chattogram Central Jail on Wednesday night, reports BSS. The deceased was identified as Amit Muhuri, a listed criminal and was wanted in 15 cases including that of murder. Mohmmad Mahsin, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station, said Amit had been serving jail in a murder case.

 Police said a scuffle took place between Amit and his cellmate Ripon Nath at No 32 cell of the prison last night around 10:30pm. At one stage, Ripon hit him with a brick, leaving Amit injured. Later, he was taken to Chittagong Medical College and Hospital, but on-duty doctor declared him dead.

 On August 13, 2017, police recovered the body of Imranul Karim from a drum at Enayet Bazar Rani Dighi in the city, police said.  After investigation, police came to known that Amit killed Imranul Karim. Later, police arrested Amit from a drug rehabilitation center in Cumilla on September 2, 2017 and since then he was in jail.
