President, PM mourn death of Fazle Hasan Abed

President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday mourned the death of BRAC founder and chair emeritus Sir Fazle Hasan Abed, reports BSS.

In a condolence message, the head of the state expressed deep shock and sorrow at his death. The President recalled his contribution to the socio-economic development of the country.

“The nation will remember him for long with due respect,” he added. The President also conveyed sympathy to the bereaved family and prayed for the eternal peace for the departed soul of Abed.

Sir Fazle Hasan Abed died of a brain tumor at a hospital in the city tonight at the age of 83.

Meanwhile, in a separate message, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina also expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of BRAC founder and chair emeritus Sir Fazle Hasan Abed.

The prime minister said Fazle Hasan Abed played an important role in realising support, raising fund and creating public opinion in favour of Bangladesh’s great liberation war.

“He (Abed) also worked rebuilding the war-ravaged Bangladesh after independence,” she said, adding that the nation has suffered an irreparable loss in the death of a humanitarian person like him.

Sheikh Hasina prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed profound sympathy to the bereaved family.
