All sorts of preparation for smooth celebration of Durga Puja, the biggest religious festival of the Bangladeshi Hindu community, is nearing completion.

District Puja Udjapan Parishad (DPUP) office sources said the Durga Puja festival will begin on October 1 with performing of Moha Sashthi puja and conclude on October 5 through immersion of idols of Goddes Durga and other deities in different water bodies. The idol-makers and artists are now passing busy times with painting idols of Goddess Durga and images of the other deities.

Chief advisor of the DPUP Nirmol Kumar Das told BSS that a total of 524 puja mandaps have been erected in ten upazilas of the district while 56 puja mandaps have been set up in and around the Naogaon town this year.

Netrakona district administration and district police authorities have already taken all out preparations for ensuring fool proof security to celebrate the Puja smoothly and peacefully.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Anjana Khan Mojlish said necessary administrative measures have been taken for taking tight security arrangement during Durga Puja festival across the district.

Under the security arrangement, a number of four vigilance teams led by three additional deputy commissioners and deputy director of local government department would remain active for closely monitoring the law and order situation in all the puja mandaps, the DC said.

The district administration will open a control room in the DC office during the Puja festival, she said.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Mohammad Foyaz Ahmed said police administration has already taken necessary steps to ensure three tiers of security in and around all the puja mandaps.

As part of the tight security measures, intelligence vigilance would be intensified by the police across the district and close circuit (CC) cameras would be installed in and around all the puja mandaps, he said.

"All Puja mandaps would be brought under special security arrangements to ensure fool-proof security for the devotees and visitors," the SP added.
