Portugal to continue mutual coop thru investment: Envoy

Terming Bangladesh as one of the most important friendly countries to Portugal, its Ambassador in Dhaka Carlos Pereira Marques on Saturday said mutual cooperation for bilateral interests of the two countries would be continued in future through investing here for development, reports BSS. “Bangladesh and Portugal shares a beautiful and friendly relation. It is our hope that Portugal will become a part of Bangladesh’s development through investing”, the 

Ambassador said Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury at a courtesy meeting at the latter’s office in the capital. In the meeting, the Speaker also termed Portugal as a good friend of Bangladesh. “Exchanging visits between the two countries’ members of parliament can add new dimension in the existing relation between the two countries”, she said.

Dr Chaudhury said Bangladesh is moving fast towards becoming a developing country under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, mentioning that Bangladesh’s GDP has risen up to 8.1 percent. She also said that the government is working relentlessly to establish an investment friendly environment.

The Speaker urged the Portuguese envoy to invest here in future for the development of the country. During the meeting, they also discussed strengthening bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Portugal, infrastructural and socioeconomic development of Bangladesh, bilateral trade, deep sea ports and Blue economy.
