Awami League (AL) General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader today said the politics is a means to improve the people’s fate, not a tool for making any individual’s fortune, reports BSS.
“Politics is not a commodity for buying and selling. It is also not a tool for building anyone’s own fate. Sheikh Hasina taught us that politics is a means of improving the people’s fate,” he told the inaugural function of triennial council of Dhaka North and South City units of AL at the historic Suhrawardy Udyan here this afternoon.
Prime Minister and AL President Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the council as the chief guest with Dhaka South City AL President Abul Hasnat in the chair.
Referring to normal life leading by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s family members, Quader said, “Bangabandhu’s family is the symbol of honest politics in the country. Why will you do corruption, irregularity, tender manipulation and extortion? You should learn what honesty is from this family”.
There is no honest politician like Prime Minister and AL President Sheikh Hasina in the country after 1975, the minister said, adding, “She has asked us to follow the path of Bangabandhu”.
Urging the party leaders and activists to make the ongoing purging drive to make a success, the AL general secretary said, “The city corporation elections are not very far. You should take oath from this council to win the polls”.
Dhaka North City AL President AKM Rahmatullah addressed the function, among others, while general secretaries of Dhaka South City and North City AL Shahe Alam Murad and Sadeq Khan respectively presented organizational reports in the council.
AL Advisory Council Members Advocate Yusuf Hossain Humayun and Mozaffar Hossain Paltu, Presidium Members Begum Matia Chowdhury, Dr Abdur Razzaque, Abdul Matin Khasru, Advocate Sahara Khatun and Lt Col (Retd) Muhammad Faruq Khan, Joint General Secretaries Mahbubul Alam Hanif, Dr Dipu Moni, Jahangir Kabir Nanok and Abdur Rahman, Organizing Secretaries Ahmed Hossain, AFM Bahauddin Nasim, BM Mozammel Haque and AKM Enamul Haque Shamim and Liberation War Affairs Secretary Mrinal Kanti Das were present, among others, in the programme.
The last council of undivided Dhaka City Awami League was held on December 27 in 2012, but the committee was announced on April 10 in 2016 after splitting into two units in 2015.
