On February 24 this year, Mohammad Ibrahim, 25, a Bangladeshi expatriate in Saudi Arabia communicated with the 'Bangladesh Police Official Facebook Page. The page is run by the Media and Public Relations Wing of the Bangladesh Police.

In the text message, Ibrahim said he is an expatriate and he has been  suffering from illness for long.

He also informed that he could not get treatment due to cash crunch.

He also could not even return home. Describing  the miserable plight he is in, he sought the cooperation of Bangladesh Police to bring him back home.

The Media and Public Relations Wing of the Police Headquarters, on receiving his message, contacted him at his address in the country.

He hails from Teknaf Thana in Cox's Bazar district.

Assistant Inspector General Police (AIG) of Media and Public Relations Wing of the Police Headquarters Mir Sohel Rana said, “We contacted his family members and other locals through Teknaf police station. We came to know that the victim went to Saudi Arabia to perform the holy Umrah. After performing Umrah, he fell ill. At one stage,he became illegal as his visa expired. He was hiding as he was ill. He could not move anywhere due to lack of valid documents.”

He became seriously ill and gave up hope for survival. At that time, on someone's suggestion, he sent a message to the inbox of the Bangladesh Police Facebook page asking for cooperation.

Confirmed of his illness and helplessness, the Media and PR Wing of the Police Headquarters stood by him on humanitarian ground.

We sought cooperation from Mostafa Jamil, a well-known official of the BCS foreign cadre and consulted him on the matter , he added.

Mostafa Jamil himself is working in the Bangladesh embassy in another country. With his advice and cooperation, the Bangladesh Embassy in Saudi Arabia was contacted with the sick Bangladeshi citizen.

A few days later, Mohammad Ibrahim got the valid travel documents with the help of the Bangladesh Embassy.

Finally on April 9, 2021, he returned home.

AIG Sohel Rana said,“ Media and Public Relations Wing of the Police Headquarters monitors the messages of the citizens sent to the inbox of the Facebook page of the Bangladesh Police and takes necessary steps in this regard.”

Under the leadership of IGP Dr Benazir Ahmed,  the Police Headquarters is working to transform the Bangladesh Police into a people-friendly police force, he added.
