Poet Rabiul Husain passes away

Ekushey Award-winning poet and architect Rabiul Husain breathed his last at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) Hospital in the capital on Tuesday morning, reports BSS.

Rabiul Husain, who was an architect, poet, art-critic, short story writer, essayist and cultural activist, will be laid to eternal rest in city’s Mirpur Martyred Intellectuals’ Graveyard in the evening today, reports BSS. His body will be taken to the Central Shaheed Minar today at 10.30am to facilitate people to pay their last respects to the noted litterateur until 12.30pm, said Sammilito Sangskritik Jote President Golam Kuddus.

First, his would be taken to Bangla Academy at 10am. After a namaz-e-janaza after Johr prayers at Dhaka University Central Mosque, Rabiul’s body will be taken to Liberation War Museum and Institute of Architects in the capital. In separate condolence messages, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and President M Abdul Hamid today expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of the noted poet.

Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, Parliamentary Deputy Speaker Fazle Rabbi Miah and Chief Whip Noor-E-Alam Chowhdury also expressed deep shock at the death of Ekushey Award-winning poet. In separate messages, Awami League (AL) General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader, Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud, and Science and Technology Minister Yeafesh Osman expressed deep shock at the death of architect Rabiul Husain.
Advisor and central committee members of Forum for Secular Bangladesh and Trial of War Criminals of 1971 also expressed profound shock at the death of Rabiul.
