PM writes to Xi Jinping thanking China for coronavirus medical supplies

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina wrote a letter to Chinese President Xi Jinping thanking him for providing medical supplies to Bangladesh and helping the country prepare to cope with the coronavirus epidemic.

“The Chinese support will go a long way in detection of cases as well as protection of our medical professionals,” the prime minister wrote in the letter, the Chinese embassy in Dhaka said on Thursday.

 In the letter, she extended her gratitude to President Xi and the people and government of China for providing large amount of testing kits, masks, PPE, and infrared thermometers to Bangladesh.

 The prime minister also thanked Jack Ma Foundation and Alibaba Foundation for contributing hundreds of thousands of masks and testing reagents.

 She said it is her “firm conviction” that the people and government of China will stand by the people of Bangladesh during this global crisis.

 Praising China’s prompt reactions in the face of COVID-19 outbreak and its success in containing the virus, the prime minister said that “China has set an example to the whole world and Bangladesh is also taking cue from the Chinese experiences”.

 The prime minister also called for enhancing international cooperation to fight the fatal disease and asked President Xi to play “a major role in mobilizing global leadership to address this unprecedented challenge”.
