PM stresses developing northern region: Nuruzzaman

Social Welfare Minister Nuruzzaman Ahmed said Prime Minister (PM) Sheikh Hasina puts due attention to the development of the northern region to further improve the living standard of common people, reports BSS.

“Many changes have taken place in the region since commissioning of the Gangachara Sheikh Hasina Bridge on the river Teesta at Mohipur-Kakina points on the juncture of Rangpur and Lalmonirhat districts in September last year,” he said. The Minister was addressing a discussion arranged in celebration of the silver jubilee founding anniversary of Uttar Bangla College in Kaliganj upazila of Lalmonirhat districts on Thursday night as the chief guest.

Nuruzzaman said the people of the northern region have no reason to worry about development as Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina puts special importance on the issue. “The whole world is watching so much development in Bangladesh,” he said, adding that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has earned the dignity of a world leader by taking the country forward in all indexes.

The Minister said the defeated anti-liberation forces of 1971 are still misleading the people by conducting false propaganda. “So, the people of the country need to be more alert so that the anti-liberation forces cannot do any harm to the country through false propaganda,” he said.

Nuruzzaman specially called upon the people not to ruin the future of their daughters by marrying them at early ages. Women are now running the country. Women are ahead now in empowering them everywhere. “We must give the opportunity to develop latent talent of the women. We should build the women as skilled manpower by educating and imparting necessary training to them,” he said.

Presided over by Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) of Lalmonirhat Rafiqul Islam, founder of the college Mozammel Haque, Divisional Commissioner KM Tariqul Islam, Kaliganj Upazila Chairman Mahbubuzzaman Ahmed, Vice-chancellor of Raiganj University in West Bengal of India Professor Dr Anil Bhyimali, Principal of Uttar Bangla College ASM Monwarul Haque and Upazila Nirbahi Officer Rabiul Hasan, addressed the function.
