The Russian professor also handed over a copy of the book titled 'Conversation of Professor Dr V Naumkin with Sheikh Hasina' to the Prime Minister. Prime Minister’s Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim briefed reporters after the handover ceremony.

He said the book written on Sheikh Hasina was published in four languages -- Bangla, Russian, English and Arabic. The press secretary said Prof Naumkin apprised the Prime Minister that steps would be taken to widely distribute the Unfinished Memoirs of Bangabandhu ahead of the birth centenary of the Father of the Nation next year.

He said Bangladesh witnessed impressive development under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Dr Naumkin said there are very good bilateral ties between Bangladesh and Russia, and also cooperation on development of Bangladesh’s various sectors since 1971.

Referring to the nuclear power plant being set up in Bangladesh with Russian support, Dr Naumkin said his country is providing necessary training, especially for Bangladeshi engineers and others, to create necessary manpower to run the plant on their own in the future. Sheikh Hasina extended her thanks to Dr Naumkin for taking steps to translate and publish the books into Russian language.

The Prime Minister recalled with gratitude the support of the Russian government and the people during the War of Liberation in 1971 as well as their cooperation after the war in clearing mines from Chattogram port. She mentioned that many servicemen of the Russian Navy sacrificed their lives while they were clearing mines.

About Bangladesh’s development, the Prime Minister said the aim of her government is to develop the country from very grassroots level and materialise the dreams of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
