AKM Enamul Hoque Shamim, Deputy Minister for Water Resources and former organizing secretary of Awami League said, “On the instructions of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, permanent measures are being taken to save the crops and people of Haor.”
The Prime Minister is constantly monitoring the situation so that the people of Haor can reap the harvest without any hindrance.
It makes her happy when she sees a smile on the face of a farmer. When he sees tears in the farmer's eyes, she mourns. He said this while inspecting crop protection dams of different haors of Dharmapasha, Jamalganj and Tahirpur upazilas of the district on Wednesday. Deputy Minister Shamim said that various permanent projects are underway across the country to protect river erosion and new projects are being undertaken. Five hundred and fifty areas across the country have been affected by river erosion. The 55 areas most affected by river erosion have been identified.
“We are going to the spot and working with instructions. Permanent dams are being built there, dams are being widened and afforestation is also being done. Where it needs to be done, it is being done. Talking to the local people, immediate action is being taken. The PM has always attached importance to greater Sylhet. So she is doing everything for Sylhet division,” he said.
Responding to a question from reporters, Enamul Haque Shamim said, "We have to work cautiously to complete the project within the stipulated time while maintaining the quality of work.”
He announced the implementation of Deltaplan-2100. The Ministry of Water Resources will implement most of the work of this master plan. If this master plan is implemented, there will be no problem of river erosion and waterlogging in the whole country. The Ministry of Water Resources and the Water Development Board are working tirelessly to implement this master plan.
