With a view to getting rid of the stigma painted on the image of Jubo League by some unscrupulous leaders who had infiltrated from BNP and Jamaat, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is looking for a new Jubo League chairman having dedicated background and determined to the cause of country’s youths and their development, a reliable sources said.

She is going to revamp the much talked Jubo League at the next council. Sources close to the party high-ups said, to restore the glory of the youth front of the ruling party, Sheikh Hasina, also the president of Awami League, will change Jubo League from inside out. She has taken firm decisions to oust the casino gamblers and their patrons, and other controversial persons who were engaged in various crimes including extortions, tender manipulation, and illegal narcotic business using their post in Jubo League.

Young leaders with clean image of the former Bangladesh Chhatra League will replace the ‘old aged’ Jubo League leaders. Various intelligence agencies are collecting secret information about the potential candidates for the Jubo League central committee. Besides, personnel of the AL president are also working on it.

Sources said AL president will choose highly educated, talented , honest and dedicated leaders for leading the youth organization, which is one of the largest youth bodies in South Asia. No infiltrator will be given any post in the central committee and any other vital committee considering the misdeeds of expelled Dhaka City South Jubo League leader Khaled Mahmood Bhuyian and controversial contractor GK Shamim, who claimed himself as Society Affairs Secretary of Jubo League central committee and other corrupt leaders. As part of the ongoing reforms in Jubo League, some top leaders of Jubo League are going to meet Sheikh Hasina at her residence Ganobhaban on October 20 at her invitation.

Due to allegation against Jubo League chairman Omar Faruque Chowdhury, the alleged mastermind of all controversial Jubo League leaders, will be excluded from the delegation. It is the first time in its history that a chairman’s name was excluded from the delegation due to his corrupt image.

Presidium members of the central committee, joint secretary and organising secretary led by General Secretary Harun-ur-Rashid will meet her to discuss the ongoing reform initiatives. Harun said the prime minister will mainly discuss the council and Jubo League chairman’s role. Following various allegations against Omar Faruk, some central leaders on condition of anonymity said he may not be allowed to attend the next council as chairman. In that case, acting chairman may replace him, however, there is no post of acting chairman in Jubo League’s constitution.

In favour of his claim, they reminded that Omar Faruk wasn’t at the Oct 11 presidium meeting. He is also currently under the Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) scanner. Meanwhile, some senior AL leaders are trying to establish their old supremacy in Jubo League. Among them, one influential presidium member, a joint secretary of AL central committee is holding secret meetings one after another to ensure vital posts for their followers.

Another high voltage leader, who is very influential in Bangladesh Chhatra League’s politics, now is also trying to make his own man as Jubo League head. But all these moves will probably go in vain. Iqbal Mahmood Bablu, Publication Secretary of Jubo League central committee said, “We hope the committee will be formed with young, dedicated , honest and polite leaders.”

Responding to a question, Bablu, who is former joint secretary of BCL central committee said, “The former BCL leaders who are currently holding posts in BCL and have clean image, should give the desired leadership.” Because we have showed our capabilities and proved our dedication when AL was in opposition, he commented.

There are around ten percent BCL leaders in the Jubo League central committee and most of them have clean image, he claimed. Replying to a question, he said, “Young persons should lead the organization.”
