Papaya cultivation gains popularity in Chuadanga

Papaya cultivation has gained popularity at Bishnopur Village under Damurhuda upazila in Chuadanga district for its  higher economic potentiality.

A good number of cultivators are involved in cultivating papaya in commercial basis and have earned a good profit than other crops.

Umme Atika Mollik Akhi, a dietician and nutritionist, told to the Bangladesh Post that papaya is a nutritious and delicious fruit. The green papaya is very nutritious vegetable.

 Amir Hamja, a cultivator of papaya from Bisnapur village in the upazila said it grows well on sandy and loamy land. High land is fit for cultivation of papaya.

Shamsul Alam, a papaya cultivator of Bisnapur Village told this correspondent that he cultivated papaya on 4 bhigas of land. In every month, he harvests papaya and sells it at Tk400 per sack (80 kgs).

After a spot visit, the correspondent found that the farmers are increasing their papaya cultivation with their own initiatives in their fields.  Some farmers are harvesting and some are taking care of the papaya plants.

Different traders come to the village, buy it and send it to Dhaka and other cities.

Ali Hasan, Deputy Director of Directorate of Agriculture Extension (DAE) said we patronize the farmers in this regards.

This cultivation is profitable for the farmers.
