Palak opens online workshop to avoid gathering

A two-day online workshop on blockchain technology begun on Friday to develop capacity of the youths to participate in the Blockchain Olympiad Bangladesh scheduled for April 16-18, reports BSS.

State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak inaugurated the online workshop, being conducted by the Hong Kong Blockchain Society and facilitated by Blockchain Olympiad Bangladesh (BCOLBD), said a press release.

Convener of BCOLD Professor Dr M Kaykobad and coordinator Habibullah N Karim also spoke at the online function. A total of 157 teams comprising 459 students of 15 universities are participating in the two-day webinar on Blockchain technology. Lauding the organizers for introducing such a new approach of holding training programme online during coronavirus challenges, Palak called for continuing the activities enjoying the technological advantages ensured by the government during its journey towards Digital Bangladesh.

He said through holding Blockchain Olympiad in the country, the government is bringing focus on the new wave of young talents working with most innovative blockchain solutions in Bangladesh. “We are very hopeful about the online blockchain workshop which would help develop capacity of our young talents on blockchain technology,” Palak said.

Dr Lawrence Ma, president, and Gabriel Chan of Hong Kong Blockchain Society are conducting this workshop which will contribute to the youth’s capacity development on blockchain technology and help improve the quality of their project submissions for the Blockchain Olympiad Bangladesh.

Dr Kaykobad said the top 20 teams from the BCOLBD will be mentored to further improve their quality and capacity as blockchain professionals and the top five teams will be given cash awards.

The BCOLBD will also sponsor for participation in the International Blockchain Olympiad which is going to be held in Hong Kong sometimes in July this year, he added. Habibullah N Karim said senior academicians and industry captains will provide intensive mentoring so that they do well and bring glory for Bangladesh.

The registration is open till March 31 and interested participants are encouraged to join through the BCOLBD website, he added. Blockchain Olympiad Bangladesh is a tripartite initiative between the ICT Division of Bangladesh Government, Academia and ICT Industry.
