‘Padatik’ to stage two plays the same day

Published : 20 Jan 2021 08:46 PM

The 43rd founding anniversary of ‘Padatik Natya Sangsad’ will be on January 23.  On this occasion, the Padatik theater troupe will stage two popular drama productions 'Macbeth' and 'Gohonyatra' in the main auditorium of the National Theater of Shilpakala Academy on the same evening.

‘Macbeth’ is the 36th production of ‘Padatik Natya Sangsad’.  The play is directed by Sudip Chakraborty from the rendering of Syed Shamsul Haque written by William Shakespeare.

In the play, Macbeth is a Scottish general under the rule of King Duncan. Three witches tell Macbeth that he will become king of Scotland. Macbeth is spurred by his ambition and his wife, murdering Duncan and acceding to the throne.

His reign is bloody and tyrannical and is ended by the combined forces of Scotland and England. Macbeth kills Duncan's bodyguards, Banco and MacDuff's wives and children, one by one, to cover up the incident and tactfully avoid the king's murder.

But this ambition cannot save Macbeth.  Thus the story of the play goes on. Shakhawat Hossain Shimul will play the role of Macbeth and Shamchi Ara Sayeka will play the role of Lady Macbeth.

Meanwhile, the play 'Gohonyatra will also be staged on the same day.  The play is written by Rubaiyat Ahmed and directed by Sudip Chakraborty.  Syeda Shamchi Ara Sayeka will act solo in it. It can be seen in the play that extremism is born in one of the places of this land.  The followers of that extremism want to establish only one doctrine by rejecting all opposing doctrines.  For this they carried out destruction, killed innumerable people, raped innumerable women.

Thus the story goes on.  ‘Gohonyatra’ is the 39th production of ‘Padatik Natya Sangsad’.  The first staging of the play was held on 11 July 2016 at the examination theater of Shilpakala Academy.  This is the 50th staging of the play.
