To meet the future demand both on international and domestic routes, all domestic airports will be developed besides constructing a third terminal at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.

Till now the under-construction third terminal has achieved 44.15 percent progress, it is expected that it will achieve 91 percent progress by October 2023. By that time, the terminal will be opened for the movement of air passengers.

Civil Aviation and Tourism State Minister Mahbub Ali made the comment while speaking to journalists after inspecting the overall construction progress at HSIA in the capital on Monday.

He said, “Due to the few reports on third terminal construction, we are now more concerned over the construction of the terminal. We will not allow any low grade products for the terminal construction. We have specifically specified the quality of products that must be used in the construction.”

“Due to import of low grade products, a sub contractor has already faced a huge amount of losses, now through reports and other information, we are continuously monitoring the construction progress,” added the minister.

Stating that the development work of Rajshahi and Barishal airports will start soon, the state minister said, “The development work of Sylhet, Chattogram and Saidpur airports has already progressed a lot. Everyone who visited Saidpur Airport liked its design.”

“The runway expansion work at the Cox’s Bazar Airport is also satisfactory. With the completion of the renovation work of Cox’s Bazar Airport we will be able to attract more international tourists towards our country,” added the state minister.

Regarding the ground handling of the terminal Mahbub Ali said, “After the completion of the terminal work, a tender will be called for providing services of international standards at the airport. If Biman is qualified for this work, they will get it, otherwise an international organization will be given the job.”

He said, “We are taking care that the passengers do not face any harassment at the airport. Due to increased monitoring baggage delivery now takes less time than before. Additional manpower has been provided wherever required. Hope the passengers will get good service. We will ensure that international services are provided in the different airports of the world.”

Civil Aviation and Tourism Ministry Secretary Md. Mokammel Hossain, Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh Chairman Air Vice Marshal Md. Mofidur Rahman, Civil Aviation and Tourism Ministry Additional Secretary Sukesh Kumar Sarkar, Mahidul Islam, CAAB Chief Engineer Abdul Malek and Executive Director of HSIA Group Captain Kamrul Islam were also present during the inspection of the third terminal.
