One killed in ‘gunfight’ with DB

An alleged drug trader was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with detective branch of police on early Thursday at Dhapa Balur Mathh area under Fatulla model police station.

The deceased was identified as Lipu, 30, son of Samsul Haq, resident of Pilkuni village of Narayanganj Sadar upazila.

Police claimed that he was accused in 15 criminal cases including narcotics and firearms ones.

DB police inspector Enamul Haq said, “Lipu was arrested from Pilkuni area. Basing on his statement, we conducted a drive at Dapa Balur Mathh area to detain his accomplices and recover narcotics.”

“When the police van reached the spot, a group of miscreants started spraying bullets aiming us. In retaliation, police also fired back. During the time, Lipu was injured by bullet,” he added.

He said from the spot, police recovered a gun and one round of bullet.

Police rushed the injured Lipu to Narayanganj General Hospital with where duty doctor declared him dead.

The body was sent to morgue for autopsy, the inspector said.
