A court in Khulna district on Monday sentenced a drug peddler to life-term imprisonment for killing a youth in 2010 in the city.
The court also fined convict Rony Chowdhury Babu alias 'Grenade Babu' Taka 50,000, in default, to suffer one more year in jail. Judge of Additional Metropolitan and Session Court of Khulna S M Ashikur Rahman pronounced the verdict in absence of the convict, said Kazi Sabbir Ahmed, Public Prosecutor (PP) of the court. The court also acquitted eight people as the charge of the murder case could not be proved against them.
According to prosecution, convict Babu hacked Zahangir Hossain Kochi indiscriminately on June 10, 2010 in the city's Shamsur Rahman Road area and fled away.
Critically injured Kochi was sent to Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH) where the on duty doctor declared him dead.
On June 11, Kochi's father filed a case against six as naming accused and some unidentified accused, with Khulna Sadar Police Station.
