Health Minister Zahid Maleque on Wednesday urged all to take the Covid-19 jab without any hesitation while reassuring that there would be no shortage of vaccines 19 in Bangladesh.

“Vaccines will be imported every month. So, there’ll never be any shortage of vaccines,” he said while inaugurating a mural of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and a ‘Mujib Corner’ at Dhaka Dental College.

Bangladesh started nationwide vaccination on February 7. Till Wednesday, 15,86,368  people have received the vaccine, according to the health directorate.

Bangladesh is using the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine imported from the Serum Institute of India.

At the first phase, 50 lakh was imported while India has gifted 20 lakh doses.

Another 25 lakh vaccines are on the way to reach on February 22. The two doses will be administered eight weeks apart.

The health minister said they sent the vaccine to each centre based on the population rate of that area.

But in some centers, he said, the demand and registration rate were much higher.  So, some centres saw a shortage of vaccines. But this issue will be settled soon, he said.
