The recent development in the Rohingya repatriation scene is quite disconcerting for many citizens of Bangladesh. So far reports published in various national dailies point to various inter-related facts about Rohingya repatriation. Issues have surfaced regarding foreign agents playing with Rohingyas like pawns, and also NGOs playing negative role against the government in terms of repatriation. But, the latest clause given by donors about Rohingyas being given permission of free movement to and from Ukhiya to Bhasan Char prior to their shift to Bhasan Char needs to be reviewed further.

The government should go on the hard-line

against the NGOs and conduct thorough

investigations to sift out the immoral and

unethical personnel who are working against

repatriation of the Rohingyas

Rohingyas are not citizens of Bangladesh who can be given permission to freely roam about given that they have already become part of various anti-social and criminal activities and have caused physical harm to the locals. On the other hand, the recent visit of the new Chinese Ambassador in Dhaka Li Jiming has brought about some new facts. The ambassador’s proposal of two cellular phone handsets for each Rohingya family giving them the opportunity of communication after repatriation is highly motivating and assures positive outcome for the Rohingyas.

Meanwhile, the international pressure on Myanmar for repatriation of the Rohingyas is insurmountable but still the Myanmar government is repeatedly ignoring the issue and is totally against the repatriation of the Rohingyas. The authorities concerned should give special focus on finding out the agents who are working behind riling up the Rohingyas and are doing misdeeds. Also, the government should go on the hard-line  against the NGOs and conduct thorough investigations to sift out the immoral and unethical personnel who are working against repatriation of the Rohingyas.
