Two journalists of private television channel DBC News sustained serious injuries on Tuesday when they came under an attack by a group of criminals in the capital’s Taltola area.
Injured DBC News reporter Saiful Islam Jewel and camera person Azad Ahmed were admitted to Shahid Suhrawardi Medical College & Hospital.
Police arrest at least eight among the alleged attackers in this connection.
Victims said that they came under attack Tuesday afternoon when they had gone to collect news about irregularities and corruptions in the purchase of medical equipment by Victor Trading Corporation at Taltola.
The attackers also snatched away their camera, boom and also deleted the video footages which they had captured as part of the reporting.
“The attack was made by Kawsar Bhuiyan, the owner of Victor Trading Corporation, and his associates”, said Saiful Islam Jewel.
After the attack, a case was filed with Sher-e-Banglanagar Police Station accusing Kawsar Bhuiya and his associates.
Later police arrested eight among the alleged attackers.
Meanwhile, Mirza Mehedi Tomal, president of Bangladesh Crime Reporters’ Association of Banglades, and its general secretary Asaduzzaman Biku condemned the attack on journalists and also demanded exemplary punishment to them.
