The 124th birth anniversary of National Poet Kazi Nazru l Islam celebrated at Teota, the birth place of his wife Promila Islam as part of National programme with due enthusiasm and befitting manner under the auspices of local district administration with the assistance of Ministry of Cultural Affairs on May 25.
The programmes of the day began with the placing of floral wreaths on the portraits of Poet Nazrul and his wife Promila Nazrul at 9 am.
A daylong Nazrul Mela was held at Teota and a discussion in front of
'Kacharibari' staged with the participation of local school and college students, teachers, cultural organizations including Nazrul devotees.
Prominent Nazrul Researcher and Additional Secretary of the government Zakir Hossain was present at the function as main speaker. Manikganj Zilla Parishad Chairman Freedom Fighter Advocate Golam Mohiuddin, Public Prosecutor (PP) Freedom Fighter Advocate Abdus Salam, former District education Officer also Nazrul- Promila Parishad Central Committee General Secretary Md Abdul Monnaf Khan, its Manikganj district President Mozammel Hossain Babor, Professor Abul Islam Shikdar, 'Promila-Nazrul Cultural Organisation' founder General Secretary Saiful Islam Khan and 'Nazrul-Promila Institute of Shibalaya founder president Babul Akter Monjur, among others,spoke on the occasion.
Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Abdul Latif presided over the function, While Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Shibalaya Md Zahidur Rahman delivered the welcome address.
The speakers demanded to establish a University named 'Nazrul-Promila University', at Teota in Shibalaya upazila of Manikganj district, the road that runs from Aricha to Jafarganj named 'Nazrul-Promila Road' and preservation of the maternal home of Promila Islam.
The function included the competition on recitation from Nazrul poems, painting, Nazrul songs and dancing.
The programmes of the day ended with an attractive cultural function in the evening.
The birth anniversary of Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam has been observed nationally with the government allocated budget at Teota under the joint auspices of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs and Manikganj district administration since 2015.
