National VAT Week begins today

The National VAT Day will be observed on December 10 (today) while the National VAT Week on December 10-15 at will also be observed at all the divisional cities and commissionarates across the country.

The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has chalked out various programmes to mark the National VAT Day and VAT Week to be observed in this month bearing the slogan "Unnoyoner VAT Niti, VAT Diye Gorbo Jati".

The revenue board chairman Abu Hena Md Rahmatul Muneem said this while highlighting the programme of the National VAT Day and Week held at the NBR Building in the capital's Segunbagicha area on Thursday.

Muneem said that marking the National VAT Day and Week, special emphasis has been given to enhance awareness among the taxpayers on paying VAT. 

Besides, he said that emphasis is also being given on collecting invoices by the consumers, motivating the taxpayers in paying VAT, and enhancing the skills of the concerned VAT officials and employees.

The NBR Chairman said that from the concerned circles, divisions, and commissionarates, special services would be provided to the taxpayers at field-level like registration, return, e-payment, preserving the accounts of procurement and sales, issuing invoices, using EFD machines.

Answering to a question, he said that tax exemptions are being provided for public interest while efforts are on to keep these tax exemptions at a rationale level.

To honour the highest VAT payers at national level, the NBR would host an event at a city hotel on Saturday where Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal will remain present as chief guest while FBCCI President Md Jashim Uddin as the special guest.

In the district level, the concerned commissionarates would award the highest VAT payers in production, services and business categories.
