Awami League (AL) presidium member and central 14-party alliance spokesman Mohammed Nasim Thursday urged the government to take steps to complete the trial of all murder cases speedily, reports BSS. “After completion of trials in lower courts, the cases remain to be disposed of in higher courts. I would request the law minister to take steps for speedy trial of all the murder cases,” he said.

He was addressing as the chief guest a discussion arranged by Bangabandhu Academy at the auditorium of Institution of Diploma Engineers, Bangladesh (IDEB) here. The AL leader said offenders are being brought to justice in Bangladesh under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. About the decision to raise gas price, he said some political parties have called a hartal protesting it, but the politics of hartal has lost effectiveness.

Urging the political parties to withdraw the hartal, he said the 14-party alliance has already asked the government to keep the gas price at tolerable level. And BNP lawmakers should also raise the issue in the parliament, he added. Criticising the remarks of BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on the recent verdict in a case filed over the 1994 attack on a train carrying the then opposition leader Sheikh Hasina in Ishwardi, Nasim said: “They (BNP leaders) are really hypocrites. They call such a big incident false. This is the nature of BNP”.

Chaired by Bangabandhu Academy president Nasmul Haque, the discussion was addressed, among others, by Dhaka City South AL general secretary Shahe Alam Murad and AL leaders Kamal Chowdhury, Dilip Roy and Balaram Poddar.
