Agriculture Minister Mohammad Abdur Razzaque has said that visiting Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi described Myanmar as a ‘difficult country’ but assured that his country would keep up its efforts to convince Myanmar to bring back the Rohingya refugees from Bangladesh.
“Myanmar is a difficult country. Still, we’re trying to persuade them to take back the refugee. We have to work together to resolve the crisis,” Razzaque quoted Wang as telling him after he landed in Dhaka on Saturday afternoon.
Many believe that any intervention of China, which maintains friendly relations with both Bangladesh and Mynamar, will help greatly to resolve the Rohingya refugee crisis.
Several lakh people Rohingya Muslims crossed into Bangladesh in 2017 to escape state-sponsored brutality in the Rakhine state of Myanmar.
The Chinese foreign minister is visiting Dhaka to discuss bilateral, regional, and global issues with Bangladesh's leadership.
Abdur Razzaque received him at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA). Wang Yi is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina tomorrow.
He will also hold a bilateral meeting with his Bangladesh counterpart AK Abdul Momen on the same day.
