Bangladesh veteran wicketkeeper-batsman Mushfiqur Rahim is going to be a goodwill ambassador of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Bangladesh Mission, UNICEF. Mushfiq will be the fourth lucky Bangladesh cricketer who is eligible to work for the UN body, report agencies.

The UNICEF, a United Nations agency responsible for providing humanitarian and developmental aid to children worldwide, is going on primary discussion with the keeper-batsman at this moment.

Bangladesh Mission of UNICEF could not inform when the final decision will be made from the headquarters of the global entity. But Mushfiq might formally be announced as its goodwill ambassador within the next one week or one month.

AM Sakil Faizullah, Communication manager of UNICEF in Bangladesh confirmed the news to the media at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS) in Mirpur today.

“We have been in talks with Mushfiqur Rahim for the last two months. He will join us as a goodwill ambassador. We will soon announce it formally after finishing the official procedure,” said Sakil Faizullah.

“We have to go through some formalities before nominating someone as our goodwill ambassador. We are to send the full bio-data and background of the nominee to UNICEF headquarters. We formally announce it when we receive a ‘go ahead’ message from the headquarters,” Faizullah told media.

“As of now, a primary discussion between Mushfiqur and Bangladesh Mission, UNICEF is going on. But we can’t tell you an exact date when Mushfiq will be announced as our goodwill ambassador.

It might be needed one week or one month,” he added.

In addition, former Bangladesh captains Habibul Bashar Sumon, Mohammad Ashraful and Shakib Al Hasan were nominated as a goodwill ambassador of UNICEF. As the fourth cricketer of Bangladesh, Mushfiqur Rahim, who is known well as Mr Dependable in Bangladesh cricket, will be goodwill ambassador.

Shakib joined UNICEF as goodwill ambassador in 2013, while Ashraful and Bashar were nominated in 2005.
