A mother allegedly killed her 52 days’ old newborn girl by submerging in water at Gopalpur union under Mithapukur upazila in Rangpur on Friday. Police arrested the mother, Khaleda Begum after a case had been filed by her husband Sultan Miah.
According to locals, Sultan Miah hailing from the aforesaid area has two more girls. Recently, his wife gave birth to another daughter, which made them frustrated. On Friday morning, Khaleda started crying and looking for her baby. Later, the body of the baby was found floating on the pond. After that, they hurried to bury the baby.
‘A dissatisfaction was going on as the girl baby was born, and being dissatisfied they killed her’, say some locals requesting anonymity. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Mithapukur Police Station Jafor ALi Biswas said after hearing the news we rushed to the spot. We have arrested newborn's mother. She confessed the killing incident.
