Monnujan calls on employers to pay wage by July 19

State Minister for Labour and Employment Begum Monnujan Sufian urged the employers to pay all the dues including salary and bonus of the workers by July 19.

She made the remarks while addressing a meeting of the Tripartite Consultative Council (TCC) on RMG at Shram Bhaban in the capital's Bijoyanagar area on Tuesday.

She said if there is a transfer leave for workers of all industrial sectors including garments in conjunction with the public holiday of Eid, the owners and workers at the factory level will take a decision in coordination.

The state minister said field level officials of the labor ministry have been directed to motivate workers aged 35 and above to get vaccinated under the mass vaccination programme against Covid-19. 

Corona vaccination will soon be given to workers under the age of 35 on a priority basis. The owners' representatives present at the meeting said that almost 100 per cent of the factory workers had been paid their salaries for the month of June, she added.

The state minister said the government has relaxed strict restrictions on Eid-ul-Fitr from April 15 to 22 to ensure smooth movement of people. That is why he advised the workers not to risk their lives in a huddle. She said that even if everyone suffers, wear a mask and follow the hygiene rules. It will keep you safe, your family will be safe and the country will be safe.

Shahjahan Khan, a Member of Parliament and presidium member of the Bangladesh Awami League, said the decision on the holiday had to be made in terms of reality. The owners expect to pay a salary bonus. He called on the employers to be generous in giving TED unions in the interest of the employers and workers.
