Queen of folk music Momtaz Begum has a unique style of songs. Through her music she has reached the peak of success. Last week was a memorable time in her life. She received two national awards just in the past week. For the first time ever, she was nominated as the highest tax payer among singers. The announcement was made on Wednesday. The singer and Member of Parliament has been declared as the highest tax payer for the last fiscal year.
Finance Minister A H M Mustafa Kamal will distribute tax cards, crests and certificates to the highest taxpayers at an upscale hotel in the capital today.
Last Thursday, it was announced that Momtaz has once again been selected for National Film Award. She was awarded for the Best Singer in the National Film Awards back in 2017. Now she has been awarded for a second time for her song in Hasibur Reza Kallol’s film ‘Sotta’. The song ‘Na Jani Kon Oporadhe’ is written by Sejul Hossain and composed by Bappa Mazumder. Momtaz Begum is very excited to receive two state recognition in two consecutive days.
Momtaz Begum said, ‘Honestly, the recognition of the National Film Award for the song is a reflection of the love from the audience. Even before the movie was released, the song became so popular that the audience adored it. After the release of the movie, the popularity of the song increased. On various occasions, I am requested to sing this on stage. That is a wonderful feeling. Winning a national award for the song doubled my happiness. Thanks to songwriter Sejul Hossain and composer of the song, Bappa Majumder.’
She also said, ‘Being the best taxpayer is a great honor for me. In fact, it is our duty to pay taxes. I try to carry out all my responsibilities well. Paying taxes is also part of that. I think everyone should be aware of paying taxes. I am proud to be a citizen of this country. I still work very hard all over the country to earn money and I pay a portion of it from there. '
Momtaz is currently working for a documentary film to raise public awareness against child marriage in Pubail under the direction of Noman Robin. Momtaz was awarded her first National Film Award for singing in the movie ‘Nekabborer Mohaproyan’.
