Abrogation of Article 370, law against instant triple talaq among achievements

Abrogation of Article 370 of the Constitution that gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir and passing a law against instant triple talaq among Muslims were on Sunday showcased among a host of key decisions of Prime Minister Narendra Modi government which completed 100 days in power in its second successive five-year tenure.

The government went public with a report card listing the key decisions taken in the first hundred days as India‘s Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar released a booklet on the occasion.

Javadekar told reporters in New Delhi that the government “has taken several historic and landmark decisions at an unprecedented scale.”

He also lauded the sensitivity and encouragement of Prime Minister Narendra Modi towards the dedicated scientists at Indian Space Research Organization after the lander of India’s second unmanned moon mission suffered a setback.

Javadekar highlighted withdrawal of Articles 370 and 35A of the Constitution “with a view to bettering” the life of common people of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh, steps towards achieving making India a $5 trillion economy, larg

e scale investment in infrastructure and social sectors, ease of doing business, legislation against instant triple talaq, universal electricity supply and scheme for cooking gas connection, social sector protection to unorganized sector workers and small traders and financial assistance to farmers - the largest of its kind in the world.

Addressing concerns raised over slowing GDP growth rate recently, Javadekar stressed that while the slowdown of the economy is cyclical, the fundamentals of Indian economy are strong and maintained that with surge in foreign investment and domestic demand, the growth rate will soon rise.
