Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen on Monday said Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to arrive Dhaka on March 17 to join the birth centenary celebration of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, reports BSS.

“The date of his (Modi) arrival in Dhaka is yet to be finalised but he is likely to be here on March 17 morning,” he said after attending a discussion in the capital. During the visit, the Indian premier is scheduled to have bilateral talks with his Bangladesh counterpart Sheikh Hasina.

However, the foreign secretary said the main focus of his upcoming visit will be on Mujib Year celebration. The government will observe Mujib Year from March 2020 to March 2021 across the country and around the globe to mark the 100 year birth anniversary of Bangabandhu while the mega event will be held on March 17, on the birthday of Father of the Nation.

Meanwhile, Indian Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla will arrive here tomorrow to finalise programmes of Narendra Modi’s upcoming visit. During his maiden visit as the Indian Foreign Secretary, Shringla met Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen and Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen yesterday.

Besides, Shringla delivered the keynote speech at a seminar jointly organised by Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies (BIISS) and Indian High Commission in Dhaka at a city hotel on Monday morning. Prime Minister’s International Affairs Adviser Dr Gowher Rizvi addressed the seminar titled ‘Bangladesh and India: A Promising Future’ as the chief guest.
