Modern technology to ensure safe, quick services: Nasrul

With the latest technologies surely delivering services for suiting to demands of the people, State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid on Sunday said use of modern technology in the power sector would ensure safe and quick services to all subscribers.

“All power distribution companies will have to introduce modern technology in their utility services aimed at providing hassle free, safe and quick services to the countrywide consumers,” he said this, while inaugurating Aftabnagar and Purbachal 132/33/11 KV grid substations as the chief guest in the city.

Nasrul said Dhaka Electric Supply Company Limited (DESCO) has already brought one-third of all subscribers under prepaid meter and introduced modern technology system.

Chaired by additional secretary Maksuda Khatun, the inaugural ceremony was also addressed by Power Secretary Dr Ahmad Kaikaus and Chairman of Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) Engineer Khaled Mahmood as special guests.

DESCO Managing Director Brigadier General (retd) Md Shahid Sarwar delivered welcome speech and highlighted its activities.

The state minister said the government is committed to provide hassle free services to all subscribers and directed the DESCO officials to be more professional to provide services to their consumers, adding, “The DESCO constructed Aftabnagar 132/33/11 KV and Purbachal 132/33/11 KV grid substations under DESCO area.”

According to the project details, Aftabnagar and Purbachal 132/33/11 KV grid substations were constructed with DESCO finance having geographic information system (GIS) technology of HYOSUNG Heavy Industries Corporation, Korea.

Aftabnagar 132/33/11 KV grid substation was commissioned on test basis on June 24, 2019, which would help uninterrupted power supply in future and the Purbachal 132/33/11 KV grid substation will ensure smooth power supply to Purbachal new town under the DESCO area in the city.

Nasrul said the two grid substations will play a vital role to modernise and digitised the power distribution network of Dhaka city as some substations will be constructed underground. “Gradually all the overhead cables in Dhaka and other big cities will be installed underground,” he added.

At present, DESCO has 700,000 consumers in a command area of 250 square kilometres in the city and adjoining areas, including Tongi, Mirpur, Uttara, Gulshan, Banani, Baridhara, Mohakhali and Rampura.
