Missing schoolgirl found dead in Jamuna

Police recovered the body of a schoolgirl from the Chhoto Jamuna River in Panchbibi upazila in Joypurhat on Monday night, 12 hours after she went missing from the district town.

The deceased was identified as Ritu Paul, daughter of Biswajit Paul of Sabujnagar area in the town and a Class-VII student.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Panchbibi Police Station Md Mansur Rahman said that Ritu went to her school on Monday morning but did not return home.

Ritu’s father filed a general diary with Sadar Police Station in this regard.

Around 10:00 pm, her body was spotted floating along the riverbank at Shashanghat in Panchbibi.

Later, police and firefighters recovered the body.
