A six-year-old girl was violated allegedly by a youth at Matikata village under Hakimpur upazila in Dinajpur on Sunday afternoon.
The alleged rapist is Sagor Mia, 19, son of Abdul Malek of Panchbibi upazila in Joypurhat district.
Quoting family members and locals, Rezaul Karim, officer-in-charge of Hakimpur Police Station, said Sagor took the girl to a field and raped her there while she was playing in front of her house in the afternoon.
Locals rescued the girl hearing her scream while the rapist managed to flee the spot.
The girl was admitted to Hakimpur Upazila Hospital as her condition deteriorated in the evening and then shifted to Joypurhat Sadar Modern Hospital on Sunday night.
Meanwhile, the father of the victim filed a case against Sagor with the police station on Sunday night.
Police is trying to arrest the accused, the OC said.
