Metrorail extends operating hours

In a move aimed at enhancing convenience for office-bound commuters, the Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) has announced a new operating schedule for the Metrorail. The updated schedule, which came into effect from Wednesday, extends the operating hours and introduces significant changes to the weekend timetable.

Under the revised timetable, the Metrorail will now operate from 8 am to 8 pm, providing an extended window for commuters to utilize this efficient mode of transportation. The decision to extend the running time of the Metrorail was made by the DMTCL, considering

the needs and demands of the people.

During the peak hours, which have been designated from 8 am to 11 pm, the Metrorail services will be available at a frequency of one train every 10 minutes, ensuring minimal waiting time for passengers. From 11 am to 3 pm, the train frequency will be adjusted to one train every 15 minutes. Following this, from 3 pm to 6 pm, the Metrorail will revert to a frequency of one train every 10 minutes.

As part of the new schedule, the evening hours from 6 pm to 8 pm have been designated as 'non-peak hours,' during which the Metrorail will operate at a frequency of one train every 15 minutes. This change aims to accommodate the varying travel patterns of passengers during different times of the day.

In addition to the extended operating hours, another significant adjustment to the Metrorail schedule is the shift of the weekend from Tuesday to Friday. This change aims to align the weekend with traditional days off for most office-goers, facilitating their travel plans and enabling a better work-life balance.

MAN Siddique, the representative from DMTCL, confirmed the updated schedule in a recent conference held at the DMTCL conference room. The Managing Director of DMTCL also expressed the company's commitment to gradually increasing the running time of the Metrorail, ensuring a reliable and efficient mode of transportation for the people.
