Man fined Tk 50,000 for illegal sand extraction

A man was fined Tk 50,000 by a mobile court for illegally extracting sand with an excavator and selling it in a residential area of Chuadanga's Jibannagar upazila on Saturday noon.

Jibannagar Upazila Nirbahi Officer and Executive Magistrate SM Munim Lincoln conducted the mobile court.

According to the mobile court, Shah Alam, 35, son of Aijuddin Mandal of Madhabpur village in Jibannagar upazila, was illegally extracting sand with an excavator and selling it in a residential area, ignoring government instructions. The extraction of sand in the populated area has threatened the surrounding installations and the surrounding lands are collapsing. In this situation, the villagers lodged a complaint with the Jibannagar Upazila Nirbahi Officer.

SM Munim Lincoln, executive magistrate of the mobile court, said the raid was carried out in Madhabpur village on the basis of villagers' complaints. Shah Alam had been extracting sand without the permission of the administration.

He further said that strict legal action would be taken against anyone who illegally extracted and sold sand in Jibannagar.
