Low-lying areas of Tentulia inundated by downpour

Some areas of Tentulia has been inundated with continuous rains over the last week. It is learned that the surrounding areas including the Upazila Parishad have been submerged due to heavy rains. Due to continuous rain, vegetables have been destroyed. In addition, many farmers' tea plants are on the verge of dying due to water logging in the tea gardens of the cash crop plains.

Ordinary people did not leave their homes without much need due to inclement weather. Hats, bazaars and roads were deserted. The livelihood of low-income people has come to a standstill due to inability to work in the continuous rains.

Abdul Jabbar, a bank officer from Mominpara village, and Sohag, a showroom trader, said government canals on both sides of the road had been filled and occupied, and roads and ghats had been submerged due to lack of drainage.

Many bedrooms and kitchens in the village have been flooded. As a result, their misery has increased in their daily activities. Besides, houses of several families living in Sahebjot South of Tentulia Sadar, Mominpara of Old Bazar, Sarkarpara, area around KG School and government canal south of Dakbanglo have been submerged in water.

Besides, waterlogging has occurred in Bhajanpur, Ganagachha, Velupara, Shalbahan and Tirnaihat Union areas of Bhajanpur Union No. 6. The victims complained that if there is no drainage system, their misery will increase. They drew the attention of the local chairman along with the upazila administration.

Upazila Project Implementation Officer Zakir Hossain said there was a lump sum allocation for the affected areas and 25 families were assisted last Thursday through the local chairman. Upazila Parishad Chairman Kazi Mahmudur Rahman Dablu said preparations have been made to distribute dry food among about 800 waterlogged families in seven unions.
