In a desperate bid to press her demand, a tenth grade student from Pirgachchha upazila in Rangpur has locked herself in her lover’s room and is now on an indefinite hunger strike.
Locking the room from inside, she has been threatening to ablaze herself if anyone tries to break open the door. Police have failed in their attempts to rescue her.
According to local sources, the tenth grader, the daughter of Monglakuti village’s Mosharef Miya is in a relationship with Jonny Miah, son of Mojibur Rahman from the nearby village of Ramchandrapara.
The girl barricaded herself in a room in Jonny’s house, demanding to get married to him. After not eating for 2 days the girl fell ill and the police were called. Jonny and his family are currently on the run.
Pirgachchha Thana Police OC Rezaul Karim said that are attempting to rescue the girl from the room. They are planning to take the necessary legal steps.
