Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud said the UN Human Rights Council should look at Palestine, Myanmar and it would be better if their High Commissioner listened to the families of the victims of the 2013-2015 fire terrorism in that country.
The minister said this while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion meeting organized by Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University (Shekribi) Alumni Association on the occasion of National Mourning Day on August 15 at Krishibid Institute Auditorium in Dhaka on Thursday afternoon.
The Minister of Information and Broadcasting said that when children in Palestine threw stones at Israeli soldiers, they were killed by a hail of bullets in response. And UN should not only visit the Rohingya camps, but also go to Myanmar and ensure that their citizens are taken back there. The United Nations Human Rights Council should pay attention to these countries where human rights are grossly violated.
Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud said, 'Zia and his party are the biggest violators of human rights in Bangladesh. Ziaur Rahman passed the Indemnity Ordinance into law, halting the Bangabandhu murder trial, rehabilitating the killers. Not only that, thousands of soldiers were killed without trial to seize power. In addition, in 2013-14-15, hundreds of innocent people were burnt to death with petrol bombs in the name of strike-blockade by BNP and their friend Jamaat.
In view of what the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet said about the digital security law during her recent visit to Bangladesh, Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud said that this law is to provide digital security to every citizen of the country. Those who raise questions about our law, I will tell them to look at this law in Australia and Singapore. The laws there are stricter than ours are. The currents we talk about, India and Pakistan also have similar currents. Framework laws have been enacted in the European Union to provide digital security. Member States have made their laws in light of that. Where, do not talk about them.
"Many times many things are said without reading or understanding the law," the minister said, "Yes, we are careful to ensure that this law is not misused, and we are working to ensure that no one is oppressed."
Dr Hasan during the programme said that the agriculturists and those working in all fields of agriculture have contributed a lot to the unprecedented development of the country under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. He said, the agricultural sector of the Netherlands, which is a quarter of the size of Bangladesh, has an annual export income of 50 billion US dollars, which is almost equal to our total exports. Hopefully, our agronomists will continue to strive to make the country's agriculture sector one of the major sources of export earnings, like the garment sector, in multi-faceted activities including protecting agricultural land.
Special guest Fisheries and Livestock Minister Sh M Rezaul Karim said that Ziaur Rahman as a commissioned officer, even though at the cost of his life, broke the oath to protect the President, the state and the constitution, and took the role of an accomplice in killing Bangabandhu, violated the constitution, the trial of killing Bangabandhu was stopped by his order passing the indemnity ordinance in the parliament. Special guest Awami League Joint General Secretary Agriculture AFM Bahauddin Nashim said that those who protected the killers of the father of the nation and gave them government jobs are still in the politics of Bangladesh. They want the rise of communal power in Bangladesh and the removal of Bangabandhu from power. They are the ones who started the politics of assassination and conspiracy in the country and are still indulging in conspiracy.
