Price of rawhide slumped unexpectedly during this year’s Eid-ul-Azha. Price went down as much as Tk 50 to Tk 100 per hide. Seasonal traders are those who bore the brunt most though the government took a plan to monitor the sale of rawhides of sacrificial animals at fixed rates as well as collection, storage and preservation of the rawhides, and salt supply for rawhides.
People reportedly dumped rawhide as they could hardly manage to sell it. Some even threw rawhide to rivers. Despite the odds, some traders dared to stock the hides at their own.
