Law enforcement agencies are set to be deployed in three separate groups — static security, mobile patrols and a central reserve force — across the country during the upcoming national election.
"Instructions have been issued to the respective agencies in this regard," Senior Secretary of Election Commission (EC) Akhtar Ahmed told reporters following a meeting with top law enforcement officials at the commission's office on Thursday.
He said while one group of law enforcers will perform static duties at polling centres, another group will serve as mobile forces, responsible for roaming patrols or operating permanent checkpoints.
The third group will act as the central reserve force, he added.
Akhtar further said the home ministry will serve as the lead ministry regarding law and order during the election, while the EC will oversee overall monitoring and coordination. "A central monitoring cell will be established," he added.
Regarding the army, he said the magistracy powers of the army have been extended until February 28 of next year. "They will continue to exercise those powers," he added.
