All land offices across the country will be brought under CCTV surveillance by 2020 to eliminate corruption and ensure quality service. Land Minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury said this while speaking at ‘Double cabin pickup transfer ceremony to the Assistant Commissioner Land (AC Land) for the field level land offices’ at the secretariat in the capital on Sunday.

A Development Project Proposal (DPP) process is underway to install CCTV at all the land offices across the country, the minister said. “I hope installation of CCTV in each land office will be completed by next year. My ministry will work with the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology to implement the project,” he added.

The cabin pickups will increase the AC Lands’ inspection capacity within their respective jurisdictions, and if necessary, will be able to make sudden visit to the land offices. Besides, the vehicle can bring a qualitative change at the field level by helping them out while fulfilling other government duties.

The Minister directed the AC Lands to record the official vehicle logbook properly. An analysis is also being conducted to create position between AC Land and Kanungo for the greater public interest, the minister said. The minister has inaugurated the cabin-pickup transfer program by handing over the vehicle keys to five AC Lands. It should be noted that vehicles were already provided to some Upazila Land Offices in this year.

A total of 60 cabin-pickups are allocated to the Upazila Land Offices at the same day. Periodically, cabin-pickups will be provided in all Upazila land offices in the country. Joint Secretary of Land Ministry Pradip Kumar Das and Deputy Secretary Mohammad Kamrul Islam Chowdhury of the Field Administration branch of the ministry, vehicle vendor Pragati Industries Ltd's Deputy General Manager A.K.M. Anwar Morshed and Deputy Chief Engineer Nabarun Sarkar were present at the ceremony.
