Awami League (AL) Presidium Member and central 14-party alliance spokesperson Mohammed Nasim today said bail of imprisoned BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia cannot be obtained from the court by force, reports BSS.
“BNP has to go through the legal procedure to release Khaleda Zia instead of destabilizing the country. Begum Zia cannot be released by destroying the court’s peaceful environment,” he said, referring to the BNP leaders. Nasim was addressing a discussion organized by Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote at the Jatiya Press Club here marking the death anniversary of Hussain Shaheed Suhrawardy.
“BNP today held the court hostage for Khaleda’s bail, which we never did. We got release (from jail) through the legal battle. Can anyone say that bail can be obtained by force?” he said. Demanding the trial of Ziaur Rahman for 15 August carnage and jail killing on 3 November by forming a commission, the AL senior leader said, “Character of the villain (Zia) should be unmasked. Otherwise, people could not understand that how Ziaur Rahman had killed Bangabandhu with his family members on August 15 and national four leaders in jail on November 3 (in 1975) by making a plan to create political vacuum”.
Addressing the discussion, State Minister for Information Dr Murad Hassan said Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had given independence to the people in exchange of his life. So, Bangladesh should be built as ‘Sonar Bangla’ dreamt by him (Bangabandhu) by foiling all conspiracies of the plotters, he added.
Suhrawardy had fought for democracy throughout his life, Murad said, adding Awami League is still following his struggle for democracy. Advisor of the Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote Syed Hasan Imam presided over the discussion that was addressed by, among others, AL Advisory Council Member Mozaffar Hossain Paltu, former Food Minister Advocate Qamrul Islam, former Home Minister Shamsul Haque Tuku, former general secretary of Dhaka South City AL Shahe Alam Murad, singer of Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendro Rafiqul Alam and Jote General Secretary Arun Sarker Rana.
