KEPZ factories create 25,000 jobs

Chattogram Chamber leaders inspect the zone

A total of 40 factories at Korean EPZ in Chattogram have created employment for about 25,000 locals and the various types of shoes, bags, garments, sweaters, high quality padding and textiles made in these factories are being exported abroad on Sunday. 

The data was revealed in a view exchange meeting  between Chattogram Chamber President Mahbubul Alam and  KPZ and Young One Corporation Chairman Kihak Sang.

The view exchange took place as the leaders of the Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry visited the Korean EPZ on the south bank of the Karnafhuli River.  

The chamber delegation visited a textile, garments, back-pack, weaving factory located at KPZ.

 The directors of the chamber AKM Akter Hossain, Anjan Shekhar Das, Md. Omar Faruq, Engineer Iftekhar Hossain, Sajir Ahmed, Md. Iftekhar Faisal, Mohammad Adnanul Islam, Tanvir Mostafa Chowdhury, FBCCI Director Dr. Munal Mahbub, eminent businessman Tasneem  Faruq and senior officials of KPZ were present.

 During the exchange of views following the visit, the Chamber representatives were briefed on the overall status of the Korean EPZ through the presentation of a documentary. 

 At present KPZ's 40 factories have created employment for about 25,000 locals and the various types of shoes, bags, garments, sweaters, high quality padding and textiles made in these factories are being exported abroad.  

EPZ has set up industrial lands of different sizes, about 38 km of roads, 28 km of power lines, 7 km of gas line network for the investors as per the demand.

The 20 MW of electricity is being generated through 33/11 KV substation transmission and installation of rooftop solar power project and 52% of the land is being greened and infrastructure including industrial plots are being constructed with the aim of creating eco-friendly EPZ of international standard.

 Chamber President Mahbubul Alam thanked the KPZ chairman for inviting him to visit the Korean EPZ and expressed satisfaction over the progress of the industrial zone.

 He said the Young One Group was playing a vital role in creating employment and economic prosperity in Bangladesh in the field of garments and exports.  We urge the Chairman to further increase the investment of Young One Corporation in Bangladesh.

 Kihak Sang, Chairman of KPZ and Young One Corporation, said that for the past 41 years, Young One Group has been successfully conducting business in Bangladesh and has been playing an important role in the socio-economic development of the country.  The Young One Group will continue its advancement as long as cooperation with trade-related organizations continues.  About 67,000 Bangladeshi nationals have been employed in Dhaka, Chittagong and Korean EPZ.  Both sides expressed hope for the future development of business relations between the Chittagong Chamber and the Young One Group.
