The 80th birth anniversary of the late Ekushey Padak and National Film Award-winning vocalist Bashir Ahmad is on November 18th. On the occasion of his birthday, 'Bashir Ahmad Honor 2019' is being organized at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on the evening of November 17th by the initiative of his two children, Humayra Bashir and Raja Bashir.

Bangladeshi singer Kanak Chapa has sung a special song to commemorate the birth anniversary of her mentor. The title of the song is ‘Tomar Upoma Tumi’. The song is written by Enamul Haque Apu. Raja Bashir composed the song.

On November 10th, Kanak Chapa recorded the song in Sargam Sound Station at Bashir Ahmad's house in Mohammadpur in the capital. Bashir Ahmad's two children, Humayra Bashir and Raja Bashir, also sang in the track. Kanak Chapa learned to sing at a very young age from Bashir Ahmad himself. She was trained by him for a decade.

Kanak Chapa said, ‘Honestly speaking, I felt mixed emotions on the day I recorded the song. I felt regret that I couldn’t make the song while Ustadji was alive.’

‘Undoubtedly, he would have been very pleased if such as song was made while he was alive. Raja Bashir is an artiste by birth. That’s why the song about his father turned out so beautifully. My husband was also present during the recording and he was awestruck by Raja’s composition. Ustadji wasn’t only my mentor, but he is also my idol. I want to sincerely thank Humayra and Raja for involving me in this project.’

Humayra Bashir said, ‘Raja and I thought of the song from a mentor and disciple point of view. When we asked Kanak Chapa apa to sing in the track, she expressed her regret that it was being made too late. Still we feel happy that we could make a song about our father. I feel thrilled every time I hear the song. I feel as if my father is beside me. He would be very happy about the song if he was alive.’

Raja Bashir said, ‘We are organizing a programme in honour of our father and we made a song about him. I really miss my mother and father a lot.’

Meanwhile a music video is being produced for the song. The song will be shown at the programme and will be released on Sargam Sound Station YouTube channel.
