Justice Mamtaj Reminds Journalist of Professional Duties

Chairman of Bangladesh Press Council Justice Md. Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed on Thursday reminded journalists about their professional duties saying the foremost responsibility of newsmen was to let the people know the truth and keep them away from falsehood, propaganda and confusion, reports BSS.

 “Journalists should highlight the real picture of the society without any distortion and bias,” he said adding that journalists should be honest, fair, and courageous and should refrain from distorting the truth, reporting against the public and national interests, and making any report against the spirit of the country’s war of independence”.

 Justice Mamtaz was speaking as chief guest at the views exchanging meeting with the local journalists at the conference room of Netrakona Circuit House.

Press Council chairman said ethics of journalism and code of conducts for journalists were formulated by the Council. 

Prominent journalist and a member of the BPC Riazuddin Ahmed and former researcher of the Bangladesh Press Institute (PIB) Shamima Chowdhury addressed the function as special speakers while Deputy Commissioner Main -UL-Islam was in the chair. Secretary of the BPC Mohammad Shah Alam conducted the meeting. 

Justice Mamtaz Uddin urged the journalists to work with utmost sincerity and honesty upholding the national interests.
