The Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry for Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment on Thursday discussed about the 'Overseas Employment and Migration Act-2013' in detail.
In order to ensure the safety and justice of migrant workers, discussions were held in detail with the representatives of Bangladesh Civil Society for Migration and migration-related Bangladesh Parliamentarians' Caucus on the amendment of the Overseas Employment and Migration Act-2013 and the formulation of alternative dispute resolution rules, a press release said.
The committee discussed the matter in the 13th meeting of the committee held at Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Bhaban with its chairman Anisul Islam Mahmud in the chair, the release added.
During the meeting, several issues such as measures taken by the Ministry to provide COVID-19 vaccine (based on the demand of the destination country) to the expatriate workers abroad and the latest progress in the establishment of Bangladeshi schools for the children of expatriate workers were discussed.
At the beginning of the meeting, special prayers were offered seeking eternal peace of the departed soul of veteran politician, former deputy speaker, freedom fighter and Awami League lawmaker Prof Md Ali Ashraf.
Committee Members Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Imran Ahmed, Mouazzam Hossain Ratan, Ayesha Ferdaus, Md Sadek Khan and Md Iqbal Hossain joined it.
Besides, lawmakers Md Mujibul Haque, Shamim Haider Patwari and Adiba Anjum Mita also attended the meeting on special invitation.
The meeting was also attended by the secretary of the Ministry of Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment, heads of various organizations and concerned officials of the Ministry and JS secretariat.
