Miscreants assaulted a journalist in city’s Banasree area on Saturday night. The victim was identified as M Mahmud Hosain, an investigative reporter of Channel 9 private television channel. According to an eyewitness, the journalist was going to his Banasree residence from his Tejgaon office. When he reached Banasree, an unidentified miscreant at first engaged with him in a quarrel following a silly matter.

When he protested against the misbehaviour, the unidentified miscreant talked with his cadres over phone. Within a few minutes, around fifty attackers rushed to the spot and beaten the journalist severely. Getting information, a team of patrol police from Rampura Police Station arrived at the spot. But the attackers continued assaulting the journalist mercilessly in front of the police team.

Being rescued, the journalist went to Khilgaon Police Station. A case was filed accusing some persons including Lebu Miah, former publication secretary of Banasree House Owners’ Welfare Society and his cohort Monir. Inspector Moshiur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Khilgaon Police Station said, “We raided several places in the city to arrest the attackers.”

Meanwhile, Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) commissioner Mahbubur Rahman is allegedly trying to make a compromise between the injured journalist and the key accused. He told the journalist that one of the accused was his cousin. Bangladesh Post correspondent obtained an audio clip where Mahbub was allegedly requesting the journalist to exclude one name from the case.

Talking to this correspondent, Mahmood said, “ If police do not help me to arrest the attackers, where shall we go to get justice.” Responding to a question, he said, “I suspect the attack was carried out following his first crime show Investigation-9 which was aired on Saturday night.” The crime show focused on fake online TVs.
